Thank you for including cm. I can't wrap my head around feet, inches and miles. The beaver family came back to the river I grew up nearby. They started reinforcing river sides that were affected (eroded) by a nearby dam. Amazing animals.

Is the development of soft dentin on the back teeth vs the much stronger front teeth an evolutionary built-in obsolescence? Does it lessen the lifespan via deterioration through ageing which then clears them out for the next generation? Survival by the strongest teeth?

Evolution for sure- well natural selection.

I never knew that about beavers. How fascinating. We've had beavers reintroduced over here in the UK in a few locations after they were hunted to extinction decades ago. They're now thriving especially in Scotland and are a Protected Species so 🤞they will spread throughout the country.
