“The mayor is in great spirits. He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” This is a truly sick remark to make. Unless he was in or very close to the towers (which he wasn’t) he would have survived 9/11. Otherwise he was just in the city like so many other people.
I mean, to be fair? It sure felt like surviving something just to have been on the island. The smoke and empty streets and dead loved ones. But I was 12, so my sense of scale was a little odd. Giuliani certainly wasn't any closer than I was at the time.

Everyone here hates him! I mean, we usually can't stand the mayor - this has been a thing my entire life, may it be about to change with Mamdani, who people will actually like - but he's EXTRA hated. You're not our mayor, dude.
It’s nice that you’re trying to be fair. But as one of the millions of people in Manhattan that day (but not in or close to the towers), I can’t imagine describing myself as a “survivor” of 9/11. It just seems so disrespectful of those who died or lost people they loved.
However, I did lose people I loved. I was speaking from experience.
I’m sorry for your losses. I feel like in my decades in NYC most people didn’t even talk about 9/11 that much because there was always a strong chance that other people in the conversation may have lost someone.

I was there too, and I wouldn't call myself a survivor either - but it does feel like surviving.
