We don't have a candidate yet! Now it's the time to point out why he's bad! Sheesh.
We don't have a candidate yet! Now it's the time to point out why he's bad! Sheesh.
I’m no Newsome fan at all, but you think the time to point out that he’s bad is before he’s even stated he’d run for president? Come on now, that’s just illogical. Each thing in its place and time. We need to worry about being able to even vote in 2028!
Yes. Yes, I do. We can walk and chew gum here. I hope he installs his redistricting trigger law, and I hope someone better is the nominee.
👍🏽 Yea, except it’s just not relevant at the moment. Remember, you’ve been fed a lot of misinformation over the years too and it’s filled with this idea that moral purity is necessary…it isn’t. I don’t like the dude, and if he’s the nominee, I vote! Simple as that.
You've created a strawman, but good job in defeating it I guess. I've voted for the Dem, often with my nose held, in every single presidential election.
Sure ya did!
I'd say check my socials, but I locked my account in the bad place. If you're not willing to believe something so simple and obvious, I guess we're done.
Is it simple and obvious? I question people who want to talk about 2028 and making sure someone doesn’t become a candidate while we are in the middle of a full on autocratic society… Do you think that’s unfair?
Do you fear him? Do you fear Trump?
He's not the nominee, and he's not my governor. Why would I fear him? You're not asking a question that makes sense.
Well then.
Explain why you think "he's bad". Do tell.
You think there will be elections? Ike real elections? Enjoy JD Vance.
Ok. Just give up then. We've clearly already lost.
Could be a win. West Coast secession is a reality, it's not like there is a constitution.
I'm all for a West Coast secession, but I still don't want Newsom in charge. 🤣
I understand but as long as we go I really don't care who takes the helm initially. I don't mind Newsom all that much but would prefer someone more radical.
But people are in desperate need of hope and action, and today Newsom offered a glimpse into a better future if Democrats rally together. Can you just let us have that, even if only for one day?
I already said I liked his trolling. I hope other, better candidates copy it.
If they don't step up to meet the moment, then they're not better candidates. I'm talking candidates as opposed to policy-makers, which sometimes are the same, and sometimes are not... This is what's needed. Fire and fearlessness.
Fire and fearlessness from someone who doesn't also platform Nazis would be great.
Hopefully others will step up. Hopefully Newsom will learn from his mistakes as well.
Perfect.
THIS! im not even thinking about another president right now, the job is GET THIS ONE OUT!
It won't be enough if he or someone like him can come back. Biden left the door open.
So what ARE you saying here? Do you support what Governor Newsom did? One.step.at.a.time! Did you expect him to overthrow the federal government today? C'mon!?
I like his trolling but I hope someone better wins the primary. Isn't that what I've been saying?
I think you are way out over your skis if you are focused anywhere beyond trying to hold onto democracy till the midterms
I've been Cassandra-ing the fall of democracy for over a decade, but I'm still capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time. He's not running in the midterms. If he manages the counter-Gerrymander, great.
We should be crystal clear that today’s crimes by the admin will be prosecuted in the future. Not only the people at the top, but everyone. If necessary, under laws that are not yet codified. Justice demands it. And saying so now may even deter some participants.
We also need to reform the judicial branch or that won't be possible.
Agreed. But considering that the legal system has enabled all of this, I think that's an obligatory part of planning at this point.
I’m very sad that we’re apparently in a place with all the -isms in America that Newsom is the answer to Trump because all the closeted sexist / racist gen x and boomer men who won’t vote for any woman candidate or non-white candidate.
All the imaginary voters we've constructed in our heads will vote for this candidate even though we don't personally like him. That's the problem with primaries in a nutshell.
I remember saying Biden shouldn’t run & I wouldn’t vote for him unless I had to. My twin brother’s minister in NV supported Biden over Trump from the pulpit in April’24 (i was there). Then they switched to Trump. Everyone then just claims it was the primary problem
But it’s a sexism and racism problem. My twin brother and his peeps will never admit to being massively sexist and racist, but they are.
Sure. Sexism and racism exist, but that doesn't mean candidates will lose purely for those attributes. They said a Black man could never win... Until he did.
Thank gawd Russia hadn’t f’d FB back then. We’re not the same country anymore because of where social engineering online has taken us 😭
So Russians on Facebook made people racist?
Social engineering sponsored by Russia on FB (and other platforms) increased voter turnout that preyed on people’s biases based on gender, crime, etc. This isn’t some hoax conclusion. I didn’t look into it as an impact for 2024 vs 2016 b/c social engineering has exploded everywhere by other parties
Sure. But didn't they have to have that bias in order to be persuaded by it? Btw, the conclusion at the time was that the social manipulation was real but not enough to sway the outcome.
Yes as kicking people off the voter rolls was also necessary and is why it is an increasingly strong play by the GOP to clawback voting rights.
I agree. Obama didn’t have the type of social media we have now plus the Russian interference. Obama had the ability to communicate and that helped. But he did not receive a majority of white votes. The next Dem nominee for president will have to be a white male. That’s where we are now as country.
Biden didn't receive the majority of white votes, either. The majority of white voters have favored the Republican since 1968. Why pander to a demographic you're not going to win with a candidate you've picked for racist reasons?
And I'm not saying we intentionally pick a person of a specific demographic at all. We pick the most energetic, appealing candidate, period, and stop second guessing what the electorate will think about it.
2024 was a huge lesson that we should never primary a cryptkeeper. However, the sexists will mobilize every time to vote against a woman and that probably includes international money feeding PACs too. Plenty of countries have a vested interest in delaying a woman president in america.
The last Dem presidential candidate to win a majority of white voter was LBJ in 1964! After LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act,Dems lost a majority of white voters to this day. We live in a racist country. I voted Harris, but knew she had 2 big problems, her gender and skin color.
Sad to say I know Dems who didn’t vote for Obama or Harris because of race. Too many sat out the last election.
Yep, I voted for her but I’m a woman with a Masters Degree who aged out of foster care. Younger whites do better on the Dem side, but that’s usually educated and under 40.
Age groups matter. Biden turned out lots of whites 45 and younger. I don’t care what Boomers and older do because they are lost. Do you often try to bait ppl into saying lots of minorities don’t vote for women? I’d love to primary AOC or Crockett, but they know the truth about the voting blocks.
Biden was set to lose by a lot more than Harris did. Frankly it was her inability to distance herself from him that ultimately tanked her campaign.
I remember in college when we learned all the CAN students had required Advertising Literacy class in high school. Americans need required Social Engineering & 🤖 Hallucination Literacy Class. We should invest in protecting democracy and free/fair elections.
