Always make your lines a different layer, it makes it easier to fix if you mess up. Some folks have extra layers for shading, though in my case it depends on the style that I want to use. More cartoony means I do the shading on a separate layer, but if I want more kids book style I do it manually

When backgrounds are added you have to decide if you want to do all the same rules as with the subject or keep it simple. I usually keep it simple on the account, but for a real portfolio piece you put as much work in one as the other

I’ll show an example of both if my phone will allow it. In the first note the complexity, the lalafell is one layer so o could move it if I needed to where the background is also made of lineart and color layers. In the second pic the background is only one layer I just drew on.

You’ll also notice the umbrella sticking out of the bleed, it was just a black shape I made into essentially a shadow. One way to make a complex looking background really easily is just to imagine a shadow of the objects.

Finally got around to reading the whole thing and replying lol. good advice. thanks. =o I'm wondering more what paint tools like air brush, or so on. people prefer to be honest. I have seen people being able to adjust lines and eyes with ease using the selection tool. any advice in those lanes?

To tell the truth I tend to freedraw a lot. Eyes can be tricky but if you put the lines in the wrong place it’s easy enough to move around until it looks right. Even still I always redraw them a bit. I havnt used airbrushes myself though, usually opting for a textured pencil instead

Hmmm I see. I tend to free draw, but with a mouse its a bit flaky. I wish I really had a good tablet for it. but I use Krita, being free x.x but yeah. I haven't used many of the alternatives in paint tools. other than the one that kinda makes lines a bit easier to draw with mouse xD

Sadly thats probably the biggest issue. If you are looking for a cheap tablet. Huion makes some good ones, though i fear thanks to... certain people it may be hard to get one. Still check them out if you can.
