This is the scariest shot in any movie I've ever seen, but most people haven't seen the film, so it's not as recognizable (explanation in alt text).

Shot from Audition where a woman is sitting motionless on the floor, with a phone and a tied up sack in the background. In context it's horrifying because the first hour of the film has been essentially a romantic comedy, and as the protagonist is about to call his putative romantic partner, we cut to her waiting motionless on the floor for him to call, with the implication that she's been sitting there motionless for hours, if not days. As soon as the phone starts ringing, the bag behind her starts writhing silently, with something alive inside it.
