Now, if these candidates can just survive the DNC ratfucking them...
Now, if these candidates can just survive the DNC ratfucking them...
The old guard in DC will make sure that no new blood emerges to take advantage of this trend
Unfortunately, this is true. Every Dem over 65 should face a primary.
They aren't going to have a choice if we keep primarying them
This is fascinating!
So tired of being gaslit by the “Florida is in play” nonsense. It isn’t and never well be. It’s a lost continent.
We sure need them. More candidates like Mamdani would help.
It’s also important to remember that Weil ran as a GND & M4A progressive, and cut the GOP margin in half compared to November Democratic establishment need to realize that when you run on a progressive platform that promises to really change things and shake shit up, young people will start to care
Progressives, not Democrats
Why are the numbers on the Y-axis negative...
can we reasonably estimate the degree to which special election overperformance (relative to '24) translates to midterm overperformance? I imagine the '26 electorate will include more "low engagement" voters than the current slate of specials
Amazing what a descent into fascism does to the people. If only they'd thought enough to vote last november.
You get out there with Liz Cheney and tell them!
They just hadn't been threatened enough yet. The dems need to remind them to stay in line and stop asking for things or their friends at the GOP will break their kneecaps
Amazing!
I REALLY hope Democrats stop eating their own. They need to respect and appreciate young voters and young candidates.
Maybe, just MAYBE, Dems will now get behind more non-traditionally Dem candidates for lower offices instead of constantly just shooting for the highest office in the land.
...I looked at the graph in your substack article and I'm still baffled as to what the Y axis is? Help I'm dumb
yeah, I was wondering about that too.
And if the Democrats move left they will pick up lots of voters.that means no corporate give aways , no weapons to Isreal and Netanyahu,no Iran war, universal health care, restore women's civil right to abortion and end Citizen United with legislation. For now IMPEACH REMOVE AND JAIL TRUMP
Hopefully this great awakening among young voters isn’t too late.
Don't worry. Democrats will work relentlessly to spoil this trend
@electdemocrats.bsky.social Are you going to listen to them?
Now they need to capitalize on this- They won’t but they should.
"We've learned not to stay home, cuz this is what we get"
thats one deadender striving to squelch uptake from last years disaster that the rest of us are grimly learning we wanna try for two?
*whispers* is it possible it was all about gaza after all
🤔
For those who made it so, it seems to have worked out very effectively.
The future.
A bit late now, what with the lack of time machine and all. Four decades and counting weren’t enough to learn object permanence and remember that Republicans continue to be super evil even when out of power (yes even when keys are being jangled), so here we are.
Now… I just hope that Democrats don’t start being condescending to these young voters (who are desperately trying to find hope for the future in this dystopian mess). It seems that we should *nurture* their dreams instead treating them as if they don’t know how the [currently broken] system works.
I don't believe that enthusiasm will be of much value since we had the last free and fair election in 2020. Thinking 2026 will be free and fair is naive at best.
"Generational Shifts", by definition, come only once per Generation. I've seen Dems screw up at least two Generations, though, tbh. Please don't fuck this ONE up, Dems...
Crazy that they couldn't get off their asses to vote in November and avoid the next 4 years of absolute misery.
Crazy how the Dems offered them a candidate who promised to put Republicans in her cabinet and lost.
Crazy that the dnc couldn't get off their asses in November and run candidates people could bring themselves to vote for
If the threat of literal concentration camps and the loss of civil rights doesn’t bring you to vote then you’re a piece of shit.
I’d say the piece of shit is the woman who thought supporting Israel was more important than winning the election.
Don't worry, I made sure to vote for an anti-genocide candidate
And how did that work out for you? Are the Palestinians better off? How about trans people? Women? Literally anyone? Or do you just not care about other people as long as your own ideological purity is preserved?
Weird that you think it’s ideological purity to not want to vote for someone supporting a genocide.
At worst, both viable candidates promised to continue Biden’s policies (it’s pretty clear Kamala would have been FAR better than Trump, but nevertheless). So voting for your third-party nut of choice (or not voting) was a wholly selfish act that served only to reinforce your sense of righteousness.
You know what was selfish? Harris thinking pandering to the Israel lobby was more important than winning the election.
I mean what to even say to this…obviously everything she did was geared towards winning the election. She can certainly be criticized for her choices (though hindsight is 20/20) but claiming she was “selfish” is absurd.
Not obvious at all. What was obvious was her alienating so many voters. Most of us could see she was going to lose.
Harris won my state, you dense turd. Handily. Everyone (myself included) knew it would happen. Go ahead and tell me what good would have come from me supporting genocide (like you apparently did).
I'm real fucking excited to find out why you think it was so important for me to have supported genocide when it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the election in any way whatsoever
You sad fucking chodes always go on about how we're just after idealogy purity, when you can only fucking get hard for PARTISAN purity
Well it’s the first time you said that so that changes things a bit. Though I think the thought process is corrosive and self-defeating whether or not it changed the outcome.
Better than literally any other option I had
How did supporting genocide work out for you?
Lol and there it is. Fucking over the entire planet is worth it to you as long as you get to stick it to the libs.
DID SHE WIN WASHINGTON STATE, JARED? HEY JARED, HOW'D SHE DO IN WASHINGTON STATE? DID MY VOTE COST HER WASHINGTON STATE?
No, electing Kamala would have been better for, at the very least, trans people, Brown people, poor people, middle-class people, women…everyone in the US except billionaires (and it would have been better for Palestinians, too).
I am trans, chucklefuck, I don't need you telling me shit sucks
They are about a year too late... wtaf anyways?
In s li as slewqde
Now we just need to get the Democratic Party to stop trying to crush those candidates.
And they are going to absolutely SQUANDER IT by rejecting progressive candidates and leadership.
I was 22 in Chicago when Obama was running for president and the youth energy was palpable. If shit is bad, and you give young folks something to hope for and work towards, they'll be there.
There's also more gerrymandering to be done by MAGA Statehouses. Sadly there seems much less enthusiasm in Democrat Statehouses, of which there are a minority. Gains in the House are not looking likely at all. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/01/14/o...
Democratic Statehouses also gerrymander. It's just that all of their efforts are focused on keeping progressives out of office. e.g. Illinois
They should gerrymander the HELL out of their states.
The main goal of redistricting in Illinois was to create a 2nd district with a Latino majority, to better reflect their share of the population in who we send to Congress. It produced Delia Ramirez & if you don't think she's progressive enough, you're nuts, lol. southsideweekly.com/the-stakes-o...
Pitting Chuy Garcia against Marie Newman, in order to punish Newman for challenging (nepo baby, anti-choice, incumbent) Dan Lipinski. They took TWO progressive districts and created ONE. Look at that abomination!
Her home was in the 4th after redrawing, but most of her former district was rolled into the 6th district. She lost to Casten who is probably as progressive as you're gonna get from voters in the Southwest burbs.
Casting and the term "progressive" should never be used in the same sentence.
Newman's problems with promising a job to Chehade if he didn't run in 2020 had a lot to do with it. The state lost a Congressional seat after the census. Someone was going to be out. I suspect you'd trade a progressive seat for losing another to a Republican. rollcall.com/2021/07/20/r...
That whole Chehade episode was a dirty trick from the Democrats, you'll never convince me otherwise. I'm fairly confident Chehade was in on it. Given the level of corruption in Illinois Democratic Leadership at the time it was appalling that they went after Newman for that.
"It's not corrupt when someone I like does it!"
She had enough momentum to beat Lipinski in the next primary. A potential third player *appeared*, threatening to take progressive (black) votes. She offered him a position on her staff if he would work with her to defeat Lipinski. Then he blew the whistle on her.
I've never really understood how it was a "bribe*" and it sure seemed like it was a set up job. *Especially compared to what Madigan was up to with ComEd.
Most people see offering monetary compensation in exchange for political favors as corrupt, whether it's Madigan, Blago or Newman. The idea that Chehade was part of a "set up job" by the party leaders is pretty far fetched. He was mad she didn't hold up her end of the deal.
MAGA won Florida by 1.5 MILLION votes. And as far as the US House goes, Uncle Gerry Mander doesn't care about enthusiasm or 'over performance.' Meanwhile, in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, MAGA won by less than 250K votes combined! But Blue voters are too stupid to move there.
Have you offered to pay their moving expenses and provide employment?
They can pay every cent, just like they did last time. Unless they got an employer to pay some. Wait until they see what fascism is going to cost them. But you don't seem to be concerned about them, really.
So your plan is to whine on the internet about what would solve it but not do anything material. The usual response of blaming everyone but doing nothing.
We could have everyone in the USA vote for the Democratic Party instead! What are your ideas for making that happen? I'm very excited about this!
And the Democratic establishment is determined to crush that moment.
The DNC will absolutely mess this up
The DNC is being rendered increasingly irrelevant, thankfully
Yeah, the momentum will come from grassroots orgs like @indivisible.org and @davidhogg.bsky.social's Leaders we Deserve, and more progressive orgs like @demsocialists.bsky.social. If we're loud enough, maybe the DNC will get on board while they have a chance. A certain Bob Dylan song comes to mind
Already is by shitting all over Mamdani. It's like a big fuck you to the youth vote.
Youth vote in their eyes is everyone under like 76 years old
How much of this is just that dems now have the voters who show up for non presidential elections?
Seems relevant to point out the Democrats still lost both of those elections by double digits.
It seems like the democrats have not tried to correct the deeply corrupt core of who directs the party. Old Biden was ok, but then giving the democrats the FU to who is running should have broken the camel’s back.
ah of course, the stegosaurus distribution
It is time for the #thagomizer to rise! (then drop suddenly as needed)
#ItsCanon :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thagomi...
omg I had no idea lol, this is incredible! Well done to every single person involved lol, I love this so much
#Etymology A cartoon of a group of cavemen. One points at a diagram of a dinosaur's tail with four spikes. The caption reads, "Now, this end is called the thagomizer...after the late #ThagSimmons." "The term #thagomizer was coined by #GaryLarson in jest. "
It's incredible lol. It's like that aurora formation named after the hedge from Over The Hedge lol en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STEVE
"The term was picked up initially by #KennethCarpenter, then a #paleontologist at the #DenverMuseumOfNatureAndScience, who used the term when describing a fossil at the #SocietyOfVertebratePaleontology Annual Meeting in 1993."
" #Thagomizer has since been adopted as an informal anatomical term and is used by the #SmithsonianInstitution , the #DinosaurNationalMonument, the book #TheCompleteDinosaur and the BBC documentary series #PlanetDinosaur."
A less evolved cousin of the duck curve
