George I've bumped into another of Ninian Comper's Georges referencing the medieval stained glass at St Martin's, York. This is closer still and perhaps closer to the first if not the first. St Mary Magdalene, Gillingham, Kent 📷 @simoninsuffolk.bsky.social

Medieval weaponry is not my subject but there's the curious string around the wrist and lance that doesn't correspond with the medieval glass, unless Comper has misinterpreted or chosen to misinterpret the cracks (they are cracks🤔). He repeats the string in some other of his Georges.

Another of Comper's Georges that references St Martin's, York, also has the string around the wrist. The dragon's tail curling around the leg probably references another medieval George at Ludlow (there are others) but I have yet to do that one. 📷s Aidan McRae Thomson St James's, Lower Gornal
