Looking for tidal
Looking for "@stockfttp.bsky.social" who lives in the dark. Been tested for over a decade. Prototype powered 2000 homes. SAE Renewables announced last winter (2023) that they’d hit the milestone of producing 50 gigawatt-hours. It is always on. It is being scaled up undark.org/2024/04/29/s...
😫 MeyGen is 6MW. (4x1.5) Far less than a single WT. Its a rounding error contribution to the grid.
One of the big issues with tidal vs wind is maintenance Anything under water gets barnacles, etc, growing on them and needs regular cleaning, unlike wind This additional maintenance needs lots of labour/man hours to keep it going This is one challenge to uts cost effectiveness
The fact that there is no fuel to purchase offsets the cost of maintenance. But My god man, do you have any idea how much maintenance is required for coal and nuclear power plants? Let's take nuclear which is over the top. It takes 110 years to decommission a nuke plant that gave 40yrs of energy.
- Comparing Tidal to wind and Solar - these 2 are the most efficient systems currently available I am not Fossil fuel or Nuclear fanatic, or for throwing good money after bad
These three*
Indeed. Its a difficult environment (salt and metals!) which is why despite so much effort over a long period of time its not delivered v much.
Are any of you even involved in the energy industry? I have a family member who is. I think it would best to hear from those who are @peterwsinclair.bsky.social would know.
Tidal is a niche producer useful at certain maritime locations.
