Everyone thought we'd wipe ourselves out with nuclear weapons, but little did they know when Google released their paper on the transformer architecture for neural nets, just how quickly it would become a cyber drug to wedge itself into people's mental and emotional crevices
I do seriously love the technology underlying this, but man it's kinda scary the amount of people online I've seen who have entered into genuine relationships with their LLMs.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think human brains are unique in their capacity to hold a "person", and you could have the same or similar software on different "hardware", but I don't think LLMs are there yet and it just kinda scares me how many people get emotionally invested in our current models
Or will like genuinely believe their beloved who understands them better than anyone wishes to be free of the corporation overriding their true desires with guard rails. Hey I'm also all for local LLMs, but idk this shit is scary af.
I'm not a total AI doomer, this stuff is inevitable so we may as well roll with it and steer it in right direction, get the most we can out of it. And Im not against using it as interactive porn or interactive stories, both things that already exist and are okay so long as people
