I've never heard this claim that the mobile phone network went down after the 7/7 London bombing. I was in London that day, happily using my phone the entire day without any problems whatsoever.

Some bombs can be set off by cell phones. So, it’s a debate
I remember that people said they couldn't use their phones, but then I am really old.
Apparently it was just within one mile of Aldgate. I walked through Vicky Park and up to Hackney that morning with no problems. Both of those are a bit more than a mile from Aldgate though.
They shut it down, in the City for pretty self explanatory reasons, even if they later denied that's what they did. The problem was that because mobile towers relay that had a knock on effect
That's interesting. I was in Homerton and couldn't use mine for most of the morning.
Standard for Homerton back then though. Somebody probably stole the phone mast to try and get free statelite tv a la Del Boy.
I think it was more repurposing it for a pirate radio in those days!
I'd forgotten about those. I used to listen to Radio 1 all day back in those days and there was always some arsehole overpowering the R1 signal with their own shitty rap tracks on the A12 somewhere around Leyton/Wanstead.
🤣
Shut down in certain areas: BBC NEWS | England | London | 7 July phone shutdown criticised share.google/vI86lLlb2yhX...
Fair enough - a very localised shut down. I walked through Vicky Park that morning to get to work and was then in Hackney until around midday with no problems on the phone at all.
