Centre right Government here in Portugal has started doing the same in order to stave off the rise of Chega, a far right party with a former sports commentator as it's twat leader. Foreigners advised to carry residency IDs (mandatory anyway tbh) and even copies of work/rental contracts/ mortgages.

Yeah since 2018. We have two decent political parties, Bloco and the Greens. The latter wants to tax the rich and improve workers' rights. They got 1% of the vote in the last election. A complete victory for the morons.
