Quick quiz to see if you pass or if I am stupid. If something happens to someone close to you such as a roommate or a family member, and they have a 9 year old child that they don’t see too often lately, who gets their laptop, jewelry, plastic robots, etc.?

The closer relations, unless they made provisions in a will. You can always ask for stuff, but you don’t get to play grabby hands just because.

The kid is entitled to anything and everything they want. In fact, kids don’t know what might be significant until much later. Even if they said they don’t want it, I’d hold on to anything I reasonably could for them in case they change their mind later.

Thank you. This is the answer I was looking for. I cannot believe how people thought they were entitled to stuff that should have immediately been my kid’s property.

People can suck REAL hard. It’s enough to almost make you feel bad for them. Almost.
