I mentioned yesterday I'd been invited to talk at a school. These young ppl want to be writers. I know the world is bad, the short story market is hard. I'm not going to lie about those facts. What I want to do is try to convey my love for writing. I want that to always come through. I love this.
Maybe mention that culture is in the beginning stages of realizing that we’re collectively losing our brain power due to over-reliance on tech. In the short to medium term, it will get worse, but a day is coming when creativity, and even literal pen and paper will rule the day.
The school talks I've done have been interesting, as I don't want to sugarcoat how bad the industry is, but don't want to kill their enthusiasm either. I talk about fanfic and hobby writing and yeah chase something big if you want but be realistic and keep your day job
