I guess in the end it's not a big complaint....I do have the books out and I did it by myself but I wish this information was really widely circulated for other writers...especially those who are not in the academic sphere.
The minute I had Skin Thief published it made me ineligible for so many things...and of course I don't regret having the book published at all. That's my baby, but it's in contrast to others who are involved in academics and these systems who know about these funds and know the language.
I will say from a writing perspective...I'd become ineligible for all kinds of funding opportunities and residencies because I was doing the writing thing on my own timeline and I had no idea that there were funds available specifically for people who had never published a book before +

The thing about streaming services is that their bread & butter are households that sub and forget - ppl who go months w/o actually using the product but enjoy having the option at their fingertips. They're the first to go in a boycott (it costs nothing to cancel) and they're the hardest to get back

I mentioned yesterday I'd been invited to talk at a school. These young ppl want to be writers. I know the world is bad, the short story market is hard. I'm not going to lie about those facts. What I want to do is try to convey my love for writing. I want that to always come through. I love this.
I like the challenge of them. Tell an emotionally compelling tale in a very tight word count. Evoke a feeling in very few words! I get to work out ideas and concepts and process different feelings I have using characters! I get to experiment. I can do weird things with time and POV! +

A part of this is, I've been asked to go in and speak to a highschool creative writing class and I feel like, okay I know enough to talk to highschool kids, one of the few writing classes I've ever taken was highschool writer's craft. I also really enjoy Gen Z The other part of me is like oh god.
