I saw something a while back about how Maine in winter is a very fertile area for finding bits of meteors that hit the surface but get suspended in deep snow. I would guess most of the "slag" you've found falls into that category.

Yeah, I really should go walk the fields more in the winter and look for them. That's why I'm curious. I figure there probably is at least one in there somewhere.
