I like to say Tesla is the iPhone of the EV market. Overpriced, over-hyped, good at marketing. Ask a layperson what the first pure electric vehicle is and they will probably say Tesla. Ask the same person what the first smart phone is and they will probably say iPhone. And neither of them are true.

Except Apple doesn't make bizarre and dangerous design decisions, for the most part. Even when they do stupid stuff like adding the notch and removing the headphone jack, the rest of the phone is engineered properly. Not so with Tesla.
