VERY interesting. I am not sure I will look at a butterfly the same way again. Looking now for the backward "heads"
so should i expect to see a bunch of these with that end bitten off?
Oh yeah, swallowtails (which are big and showy and not particularly fast) have bits of wing missing all the time. Not always the hindwings, and there's no way of telling which predators were confused vs. simply too slow.
hmm.. now i'm thinking. we need a survey of butterfly wing bites. like
