"Just append -ai to your search" is the "you're prompting it wrong" of Google stans. 1) It's a broad-audience consumer technology. It shouldn't suck by default. 2) Appending -ai to your search doesn't keep Google from returning third party AI slop in the search results.

Yes, and it's useless anyway if you do 'highlight a word + right mouse button click' to search. That used to be a very useful tool, but now definitely isn't. It's part of the reason I've stopped using Google, but they're all pushing AI search "assist" now.

As DDG user I didn’t know that option had been added. I am glad not to be a regular Google user.

I hate it with a passion. It's consistently rubbish esp because it adds heaps of useless nonsense (nobody asked for) muddling even the remotely on the ball info ... Score: 0 out to five ⭐

It shouldn't be necessary but here we are. Use DuckDuckGo for search together with the DDG browser and the settings allow you to eliminate pretty much all of the AI BS from your searches. Still can't believe *Google* fucked up search. You had one job, guys... duckduckgo.com

You can blame Prabhakar Raghavan, the Herald of Enshittification, for Google becoming useless. Prabhakar Raghavan previously destroyed Yahoo! search and then as is typical of this kind of dudebro, was allowed to fail upwards and then infect Google Saint Edward: www.wheresyoured.at/the-men-who-...

Shit, half the time '-ai' doesn't even remove the summary garbage, at least in my experience.

It also doesn't keep Google ai out of the search. It just isn't at the top. It is in the drop downs

How about instead we remove the AI "default" and make it so that if you add +ai to your search several burly men show up and break your fingers.

I'm now using an extension called "Bye Bye Google AI", and it's effective. Mind you, Google's not my default search engine, but sometimes it's the only recourse that works.
