I am normally supervised, but when I see one in the bathroom I usher it out of sight so I wonβt have to throw it outside.
I personally stand over my husband to make sure he squishes them. Sorry not sorry
Have him catch and release. They keep other bug populations in control, such as the disease carrying mosquito (I've had West Nile Virus). And some even eat ticks! They eat so many things that we really need to keep out of our house.
This is why your husband chortled when you asked him who he'd save from a house fire ...

My dad had a dedicated piece of cardboard to do this very job. We only found it after he'd passed away.
one day i woke up at two a.m. to a huge rain spider on my ceiling. i stayed up with the light on until morning when my landlord could come collect it and release it into the garden. i donβt have a phobia of spiders but am petrified of spiderwebs and so i hate spiders cause they make webs π©
a strand of spiderweb floating in the air stops me dead in my tracks. my friends will ask why have i stopped walking and Iβll be: there a web there, so we have to wait for it to pass or for me to go around it. even sweeping it away with a broom/stick/feather duster makes me queasy.

As someone that is similar to you, with no fear of spiders, I respect my wife and children enough to remove them when they find them. If I see one, Iβll leave it in peace though.

Spiders are awesome. It's fun spotting the things I don't like in the house (flies and midgies) get caught in their webs.

My wife is a spider-whisperer. She tames them and releases them into the attic where they get fat and happy.
