midterms are congressional elections that occur between presidential elections. you are thinking of primaries.
Somebody else pointed this out and I am corrected I confused my wording I meant that primaries elect the fringes of the parties instead of candidates that can win general elections and represent the majority of the population in general elections like midterms
Democrats have so thoroughly deluded themselves that their milquetoast views are actually radical that they live in perpetual fear of the consequences should they elect someone they actually like, resulting in them constantly voting for people who nobody likes in the primaries
