my daughter liked 1 and didnt like 2 because the first was Mystery, Nobody Knew What Was Going On, and the second was Mostly Yelling so this definitely is consistent with your read on the script

Coincidentally, I have similar-ish feelings about The Terminator. In retrospect, I like the first more than the second because it's basically a horror movie disguised as a sci-fi film. Though I enjoyed T2 being a fun action movie, it just lead to more Lore and more Sci-Fi that I don't care for.
