Wasn't he appointed by Trump in his first term?? Him resigning is a sign of nothing good.

It's an appointment not a regular job which is why Biden didn't replace this guy. I assume he's resigning so Trump can reset the clock on that except I'm not sure why he wouldn't wait until the end of the term like he did during his first term.
