Oh that's definitely why he stayed with your dad, notoriously private. He wanted nothing to do with the fame side of being a successful writer. Let me know what he turns up!

I'm kind of excited this came up today. I haven't seen that stuff since I was a teenager. My dad just left for Ireland for a few months but I drive by his place once a week so when he lets me know where it all is I'll stop by and take some pics. I asked if he had any stories about him as well.

This is so exciting for me too! I was obsessed with him and in the early days of internet was always scouring for details of his life, trying to find random stories that had been published, etc. Haven't gone down a Salinger rabbit hole in a very long time, probably so much to uncover now.

Oh for sure! He definitely got out and about up there but most people had no idea who he was. Just some old man.
