A society that doesn’t allow for joy is already dead
Not that the garden lady should be treated badly but it seems like a world of difference between a loving spouse and the sort of wealth that allows a person to spend all their days drinking coffee in their garden. The latter is nearly always predicated on the mistreatment and suffering of others.
It’s interesting that you would jump to the conclusion that they’re wealthy, and also by exploiting others. I think by far the most likely explanation is that they are both over 70 and retired, having lived carefully and built pensions. Not everyone can do this, but it’s also not rare.
It’s not jumping to a conclusion, you can just look at a person’s profile
So I knew she was young bc I was on Twitter when this happened but I just looked it up out of curiosity and she was a business owner in her early 20s, so yeah, wealth.
Ok, fair enough, not jumping to conclusions—I didn’t realise this had been such a big thing at the time. But apparently they work flexible hours—doesn’t mean they don’t do a lot of work, and doesn’t necessarily mean wealth. But not poverty, certainly. www.businessinsider.com/woman-shocke...
I have a theory that years exposed to people’s carefully curated illusory lives on social media has sapped their ability to be happy for others. All that’s left is a bitter desire to drag them down instead.
you know they have very strong opinions about multi family housing on nextdoor
wtf even are people? I wake up every morning with chronic pain, too, but I like the idea of this woman having coffee with her husband and just being happy with something so small and simple without asking for the world on a stick. “I’m miserable therefore everyone else must be.” Charming.
