How is it conservative to continue to give Elon Musk government subsidies by the BILLIONS ... but bitch about Kamala suggesting tax incentives for American first time home buyers? or Tax incentives for American small business start up ? or Student loan forgiveness? or Money to build more housing?

I sincerely do not get it ..we slather the wealthy with more and more swag ..what are they doing for US ??? Elon could be building houses. He could be helping with clean water..he could be building schools and hospitals in rural areas .. I have no desire to go to Mars ..or have a driverless car.

No Elon could be STRIPPED of his Ponzi scheme. Ppl he buys stocks in his own companies to inflate and then sells at high and drives down price only to do it again. This is why the stock market is so hi. The wealthy r driving up stocks and transferring ever more wealth to themselves

Conservative? Here I was thinking that the Trump/Musk government was all about fascism, hate, division and, most of all, absolute corruption and a transition to totalitarianism for the purpose of personally controlling all resources and people on earth.

Another thing we need is good public transit, but Musk hates trains because viable transit competes with his car company, and unlike his vehicles, electric trains are meaningfully better than ICE's for the environment.

Sadly, the auto makers here hate trains. That is why we don't have them now and we never will as long as the automotive industry calls the shots.

The Hyperloop isn't a train, it's an infeasible concept Musk supported to shut down California's HSR. He wrote it *because* he hates trains. www.aol.com/news/elon-mu...

Electric vehicles are meaningfully better than ICE's for the environment, and work in more rural areas where trains will never be practical. Both are appropriate technologies. I don't think Musk is too concerned with the current 300 million cars in the US being replaced by rail anytime soon.

They're *marginally* better, they're still cars. Half the carbon emissions of a vehicle come just from production. They're heavier and cause more road wear (road maintenance has emissions), they still have tires (tire pollution is horrendous). 80% of the US lives in metro areas, not rural.

antisocialm3dia.bsky.social @antisocialm3dia.bsky.social

The "weight" argument is a red herring, when you compare similar vehicles there is often no difference at all. Tesla Model 3 weighs the same as BMW 3 series for example, and the vast majority of road wear is from construction vehicles, garbage trucks, buses, etc, because the weight is far greater.

The Wokest Gamer @thewokestgamer.bsky.social

No, but even so you miss the point. Why are you focusing on a marginal improvement because it's better for 20% of the population rather than a massive improvement that's also more economically, socially, and physically inclusive like trains, trams, buses, bike lanes, and walkable infrastructure?

antisocialm3dia.bsky.social @antisocialm3dia.bsky.social

With 300 mil vehicles in the US it's factually better for far more than 20%. The simple fact is that cars exist in large numbers and cause pollution both globally and locally, EV's will help mitigate that to a large degree. Rail is a governmental issue solved by legislation not individuals.

The Wokest Gamer @thewokestgamer.bsky.social

TL:DR there are dozens of problems caused or exacerbated by cars, and EVs only fix the problem of tailpipe emissions. That's not nearly good enough to justify the insane cost to both the individual and the government when a far superior option exists if you just have the will to pursue it.

The Wokest Gamer @thewokestgamer.bsky.social

You're also forgetting that not everyone can afford a $30k+ EV. Trains don't just solve the pollution of cars, they reduce the cost burden of travel on society, especially the working class. Furthermore, removing cars makes cities much safer, quieter, and more accessible.

The Wokest Gamer @thewokestgamer.bsky.social

Roads are contracted and built by governments. It is far better for the 80% living in metro areas to have options that aren't cars, and that's what we should focus on. Road travel is like, 8% of overall emissions. EVs only eliminate maybe a quarter, trains eliminate almost all of it.

antisocialm3dia.bsky.social @antisocialm3dia.bsky.social

You've lost the plot. As I said, that is up to government, not individuals. Your initial, and false, claim was that Elon hates rail, as if it's up to him to develop it. It's not and never will be, it's up to governments and legislation. In the meantime replacing ICE with EV is a good thing.

dec 24, 2024, 4:55 pm • 0 0 • view

The Wokest Gamer @thewokestgamer.bsky.social

EVs are a capitalist's fake solution to a problem caused by capitalism. Cars aren't dominant due to superiority, but because auto makers lobbied governments to destroy our cities for their private profits. Individualism isn't a solution to a societal problem. Your "point" is moot.

dec 24, 2024, 5:37 pm • 0 0 • view

The Wokest Gamer @thewokestgamer.bsky.social

Once again, governments fund roads. Government's subsidize EVs. Half the emissions are just from production. Producing 300 million new cars isn't environmentally friendly. Building out rail and removing 70-80% of cars is, and it's economically better for the working class and small businesses.

The Wokest Gamer @thewokestgamer.bsky.social

It's literally not false, I even gave you a source. Elon Musk, as an individual, literally bought the government. He can manipulate the stock market with a tweet. You think he has no say in it when he's proposing alternate government projects just so he can literally shut down rail projects?

So your argument is that a 20% improvement that benefits most people is not worth it because maybe someday humans should like, totally change how they build physical manifestations of society? You’re not going to change how cities and suburbs work, my dude. Focus on real things that can be done.

The Netherlands has reclaimed their cities from cars. We bulldozed our cities for cars. It absolutely can be done. It just takes people to make decisions instead of auto makers and oil companies. 20% of people isn't most. 40K deaths on US roads every year, trains and bikes can fix that.
