A good many humans deserve our disdain, my friend. I have always preferred dogs to human. Much more trustworthy and entertaining.
Right? This was my response to George's column on the 'sportfishing' of bluefin tuna. Ontario Canada isn't much better with the reintroduction of penned dog hunting (hunters training dogs to chase and kill penned foxes, coyotes, rabbits…), which is even illegal in the US. bsky.app/profile/did:...
I'm surprised to learn this about Canada, my friend. Fox hunting was outlawed in the UK, save for Northern Ireland, as I understand it. So called 'game bird' hunting is hugely popular in the UK and US. Including, as I just learned in our supposedly compassionate community, dove hunting.
We don't have fox hunting here per se, but foxes are used in penned dog hunting, a cruel practice that was banned in '97, but brought back by Ontario's Premier #ThugFord in '23 after pressure from hunting lobbyists. 🤬 Hunting, sadly, is defended in Canada as well. animaljustice.ca/blog/ministr...
I’d never heard of such a thing. How well known was it? Why do we get upset about library drag story time, but not this? One of them involves choice of behaviours. One of them is sociopathic and vicious.
Not sure how well known outside of vegan/AR circles (even with social media we don't have great reach), which is a pity as I'm sure MOST animal lovers would have been appalled. But the mutually supportive gun & hunting lobbies here in Canada (as they are in the US) are influential policy forces.
