UK Labour is as clueless and useless as US Democrats. Neither country has any leadership; no opposition. Those elected to represent us have failed miserably. It is up to us, we the people living in leaderless countries, to change the story - while we still can.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
You're very sweet, Steve. Thank you. It's as close to a socialist holiday as America can handle. It beats all those bland 'bank holiday Monday' breaks in the UK. I'll never understand not having them stand for something specific, particularly in a land so rich with history, culture, science, etc.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social)
Today @carolecadwalla.bsky.social writes about why we must hold mainstream media accountable for the hundreds of journalists deliberately murdered in Gaza. There's a 24 hour news blackout to call attention to Israel targeting and killing journalists. broligarchy.substack.com/p/no-headlin...

We live in 'ranty' times, my friend. I get it. Occasional a good rant is what it takes.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm also not a watcher. Much prefer reading, followed by listening. I cannot bear to listen to a single word out those nazis mouths. Nothing they say is true or even grounded in any kind of reality.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
Impressive, Paul. And a good story.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
I always check timelines, as well as 'replies' to others, RB, thoroughly before engaging. Differences can be interesting - but ideally I enjoy intelligent, creative, thoughtful, passionate, bookish people - not obsessed with accumulating followers. You have an engaging timeline. #1 for me.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
Wonderful, my friend. She sounds like our kind of person for sure. I adore word savvy people.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
Agree. Thank you for being such a polite, thoughtful person here on BlueSky.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
I do indeed differentiate between the two, RB. Unfortunately, the gunman who recently killed and seriously injured children at the Catholic school he attended, is being referred to as 'her' by the NYT. He claimed he was a woman, so the NYT is referring to him as such.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
I also love that place. We used to go every year.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
Weirdly, I never liked Scrabble, or crosswords - but I have played Spelling Bee to 'Genius' level daily for many years. I am addicted. Also to 'NYT Connections'. Our friend plays it to 'Queen Bee' level nearly every day. Queen Bee is very tough for me to achieve. I'm not in that league.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
Why are do you feel entitled to ask me to explain myself? Move along.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
I've read every word she has written on the topic and find her to be thoughtful, generous, kind, tolerant, and witty - unlike those who vilify her.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
As with all extremism these days, mainstream media has a lot to answer for. They pander to extremism giving massive platforms to the nazis in the White House, as well as to men claiming to be women. The media normalizes the crude, cruel and outrageous.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
And I respect that. There's plenty of room for more than female and male. Only those lacking imagination think otherwise.

Steve, Do you play @nytimes.com Spelling Bee? This is the finest player in all the land. She is truly amazingly gifted at word games. I don't know anyone who plays The Bee better. And she has delightful food cravings/binges she sometimes shares. We 'met' long ago on Twitter playing the Bee.

That could indeed end tragically, though I don't imagine many book shops were custom built. When I returned to Northern California from England, the hardest thing to leave behind, besides my precious friends, was my late husband's natural history library. Moving books abroad costs a fortune.

Love it. I'm trying to remember where I saw such a game. It might have been in a film. Indeed. It is in the film Wicked? Did you see it? The library scene is similar to the one you're suggesting. Highly recommend the film and theatrical version. They're very different.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
Certainly checks all my boxes. I've always wanted to live in one of the world's great libraries. Have recently started collecting library cards. California has nearly 1,200 public libraries. Any California resident can get a library card from any California public library.
Marsha Coupé (@marshacoupe.bsky.social) reply parent
I like the way you and our well-read friend think, Steve. Or perhaps we could each choose one of the world's greatest libraries and move in for a spell, as long as don't mind sharing it with hoards of book lovers. I'll take Dublin's Trinity College Library.
