I think Colton Herta will do very well in Formula 2 because he is an adult who has raced cars well against adults for a long time. That being said, I think it would have been even more fun to send Will Power over there and just see what happens.

Will Power Prema when? Cadillac could’ve helped me move on from the Michael Andretti of it all if they had gone with the ‘24 Dale Coyne lineup approach. I wanna see if Scotty Mac can adapt to yet another open wheel car, or give kirkwood an opportunity to prove he’s the better driver from Florida!

It makes no sense. He’d be guaranteed the superlicense points he needs with a few FP1s in the Cadillac, and there isn’t even an open seat at the team until 2028. He’s not even Andretti’s best IndyCar driver!

I would be fairly surprised if both drivers are still at Cadillac in 2027. Either way, you need some sort of narrative momentum to sell sponsors and media on Herta moving up. I imagine both Towriss and Herta think that he will get that in F2.

And Toto Wolff thought Kimi Antonelli was going to do gangbusters in F2.

Toto Wolff also still thought he was going to do gangbusters in F1 after that, too. I think we can safely assume that Toto Wolff is just a little too enamored with his (still pretty promising!) youth. Antonelli also still finished sixth...

I’m assuming it’s a “learn the tracks and pirelli tires” exercise

Still doesn’t solve the “where is he supposed to drive in 2027” problem unless they fire Bottas or Perez.

Given that this is part of the same plan coming together just a week after their signing, I think it’s safe to assume that their contracts were written with this in mind.

We have also specifically seen Sergio Perez fired with a contract in the past 10 months.

Counterpoint - will TWG as an American company have a healthier respect for the fundamentals of contract law? Or will they have the same negligible relationship with the concept of contracts as their European brethren…

I mean IndyCar McLaren (US) fire drivers _way_ faster than F1 McLaren (UK) do, so it seems unlikely this is going to be much of an issue.

Technically, I don’t think McLaren is firing them, just exercising their contractually negotiated exit clauses. Because Zak Brown respects and understands the importance of a contract! (Fuck am I defending Zak Brown? I need to take a shower)
