The dream!

An impeccably photoshopped highway exit sign that advertises options for GAS, FOOD, and COMICS. The comics logos are for Challengers and Dark Tower Comics in sunny Chicago, but the actual exit sign is just some random picture I found on the internet. No idea of the actual location. I must say I did a fucking fantastic job on it.

I recognized the Challengers Comics logo immediately! Did not recognize the Dark Tower logo, though I’ve been in there a few times - now I’m thinking I saw you in each one of those joints on different FCBDs?

Gotta update my mental “times I ran into CB” registry: 1. Block 37 signing. 2. Book swap at bar on Irving Park Rd. 3. On Addison by Dunkin’ Donuts waiting for my smack dealer. 4. At C2E2 2012. 5 & 6. Signing at these places? Flippin weird. Maybe at Challengers I’m swapping you in for Tim Seeley?

Is the Block 37 one right? I don’t remember ever setting foot in that place.

Yeah - talking w/you about my zeal for G-Mo’s the Return of Bruce Wayne got me invited to write for that short-lived comix joint’s owner’s new blog. Matt Sulzen? The blog eventually became Monkeys Fighting Robots after I nervous-breakdowned myself off their first thing.

So yes, you did a signing in Block 37. I would remember it more than you because you were on Batman Inc, impressive shit, whereas you never so much as sniffed at any of my rock &roll amazingness, putting you in a tie with the rest of the world.

Books used to be so much of everything, man. I grew up in Chi suburb Park Ridge, the library would have used book sales twice a year, $.25 for pb $.50 for hc. Got every book by Vonnegut & PKD, all the Matt Helm books, etc etc. Did you ever go into that used book joint on Belmont near Clark?

The only used book place that leaps to mind is Myopic. But I may just be forgetful.

This one was this absolute closet run by a huge white-haired dude named William I think? Had old playboys, not a ton of comix stuff but also old Heavy Metal issues, and tons of super-cool obscure stuff. Myopic is still in business on Milwaukee by the North & Damen 6 corners.
