Yes, the two party duopoly is broken. I’ve been saying for years we need a 3rd & even a 4th political party. But @elonmusk is an utterly dishonest broker/divider/spreader of dangerous disinformation. Anyone joining him & his new “political party” should have their head examined.

There are many procedural barriers as well as financial barriers to entry. Not to mention national corporate media guarding the duopoly via how they distribute "coverage" (aka, free air time). Plus, 3rd parties don't grow from the top down, they start at the grassroots.

Without ranked choice, it won't work. Hypothetical election: Dem Socialists gets 27% Dem gets 26% Repub gets 47% I feel like the majority always loses with three parties And in a general election, you may end up with the house of reps picking the prez.

3rd parties always start nationally. Might be better to find say a dozen congressional districts with the right factors (TBD - but consider places with higher % of truly independent voters) then win 3-6 seats. True bargaining power in closely divided House. Build from there.

Honestly, I don’t know. I practiced law for 30 years, but never election law. Each state’s “legislature” is tasked with running its state’s elections for federal office. In recent years, Scotus has expanded that state power, but it’s not unlimited. Maybe RCV would be allowable.

Call me Joe, (or Joe Pasha if you please...) @bugscuttle.bsky.social

Absolutely! But I'm convinced we need a genuine workers party of some sort. The socialist and communist parties I've interacted with were out of touch with reality, imho. The Dems are as bad as the GOP and the DSA is just a branch of the Dems. So...yeah...

Most union members I know are staunch maga. I'm in Michigan where union members still exist in numbers, and... they're pretty much all Republicans. HARDCORE Republicans. So your theory hits a snag there.

Oh, I didn't say any of this would be easy. Nor would it succeed tomorrow. But discontent grows, as does misery...you can only push people so far. Ask the Russians. Or the French, for that matter.

I think there are pissed off workers, but I don't know many union members that are unhappy with their work situation. They don't realize it's because of their union, most I personally know complain about union dues. They sincerely don't understand what a union is, or does.

I keep wondering when we have our "1917 moment", you know? What will be the last straw? Last time I was sure was Covid/BLM. I keep being wrong. The American worker endures more than the "stolid Russian" or the "hearty Catalan". Time to throw the history texts out the damn window. LOL

A workers revolution may come, but I sincerely, SINCERELY doubt unions will be part of it here in the US. If anything I'd be willing to bet they fight against it.

LOL, I'll tell you one thing for sure; MY union (Bakers, etc) will have nothing that doesn't involve collecting dues seated at their desk. I had conflict with my last union job (SETU 1199NW) as shop steward and learned how cowardly a union could be. Broke my heart. This Bakers union? A bad joke.

How would a 3 party or 4 party system work? What if no one gets sufficient electoral college votes for their presidential candidate? It then goes to the House, which chooses the president. Which will probably be whoever has the majority in the House. There is no coalition system in the US.

A big part of the problem of the 2 party system is what happens any time someone tries to create a 3rd party. But if he Ross Perots his way out of a 3rd Trump that's better than a 3rd Trump term.

only way we get a multi-party system is via an expanded house and proportional representation best part: we only need to pass a bill. no need for a constitutional amendment. (of course, an amendment would make it stronger, and potential avoid it being changed in the future)
