I know it’s not called a CSIS clearance but their involvement in the process for Top Secret or Enhanced Top Secret occurs. I state it that way so people don’t think it’s just a police records check or fingerprints by the RCMP.
I wouldn’t expect lay people to know what the different clearance levels are and who/what is involved in them. CSIS grants/removes Top Secret or Enhanced Top Secret levels whereas lower levels can be assessed within the departments’ security teams themselves.
Except maybe Protected C which may involve some CSIS involvement I suppose.
The average lay person doesn’t know who does the screening for any level of government security clearance. Calling it something it isn’t, is confusing.
Sort of like saying I drive a Ford....semantics.
