Dudes an open transphobe.
Dudes an open transphobe.
@edpoole1975.bsky.social is this the candidate you were supporting for deputy leader?
Congratulations, Mothin!
Very disappointed. I cast my vote for him before I knew he'd ignored all the questions about trans equality.
Transphobia accusations are a nonsense. If you’re on the left, you can’t criticise muslims.
First test for @zackpolanski.bsky.social Corbyn faffed on this. We need a strong, explicit, and absolutely clear statement on this. Human rights are not negotiable.
American
That's definitely a word.
Words are cheap, as demonstrated by Sultana and Corbyn. No, this time we need firm action. They cannot say "trans people deserve dignity and respect" while allowing a senior to espouse views like he has. No place for transphobes now, and Greens have a history of it.🙄
Yeeeeeeees!!! Super congrats!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Yeah a transphobe. Break out the champagne. /sarcasm.
Unfortunately this guy is going to now receive huge support from transphobes and anyone who wants to disrupt the Greens and have them getting distracted with internal disputes.
Exactly this - there is no trans debate, trans rights are human rights, any party who entertains terfs is doomed to infighting.
Can't we just take him to the Glienicker Bridge in Berlin and exchange him for Zarah or Nadia or Clive?
Mothin is transphobic. He pulled bullshit stunts to try and conceal it and his mask slipped the second the votes were counted. I hope he wises up or his term in office may be very uncomfortable.
He's not going to wise up, he's going to get roasted by the membership whenever he says anything. * cracks knuckles *
So basically both the Greens and Your Party are having problems with trans discrimination. Great!
not trying to defend the greens but to me the issue with your party is bigger and more fundamental, while this here is more isolated
Fair point but in theory once Your Party has been established we can vote Adnan out in a selection process, if it is to be as democratic as they say.
there are several other people who are transphobic already afaik
Personally, I’m reserving myself until the party is formed to see if this can be stamped out or if it’s going to be an ongoing problem. It’s early days, but I won’t fault anyone who is counting themselves out already.
I think the percentage of transphobes and the unwillingness by the not-explicitly-transphobes to try to push against the transphobes transphobia gives me approximately zero hope for this party.
That’s fine, but the Greens also have a transphobia problem. Not healthy to pretend just bc Zack has been elected then it’s going to go away. Unless he starts purging people, and that would include Adrian Ramsay.
I guess I don't really have hopes for them either but it still seems less shit than founding a new party so badly lol
I would say think about the Greens a few years ago compared to now. Zack’s election was only possible because the left flooded the Greens after Starmer took over Labour. Your Party looks like it will be popular, the more of us get involved, the better to ensure we have the mandate.
I am an anarchist, my experience working with parties has always been that the careerist and status seekers win out in the end because the structures are built to favor them, and in the end it always converges to the mess that is labour.
The transphobes are already seated at the table.
And now they are here too?
(just to be clear I don’t think parties will ever be something to put your trust in)
The Greens also have two transphobic MPs, and one transphobic peer.
I heard your speech in which you used emotive language about fighting the hard right. Dont you think leaders and in particular political leaders should be more circumspect, less prone to label or ostracize others, more inclined to listen and to convince others through reasoned discussion Response?
Lol no. We've got 3 parties pandering to fascism & racism. Pick one of those if that's your flavour.
There are authoritarian neofascists in all mainstream parties. Political parties tend to attract that type, which is why you will be as disappointed with the Greens as others were with the nationalists, lib dems, et al. Time to stop recycling an outmoded approach to democracy and get real.
is there some procedure that can be taken against someone elected on a false prospectus?
Boooooo
I voted Rachel and Frank, and really surprised that Mothin made the cut, he is perhaps the least articulate of all the candidates and does not check all the boxes one would hope for. Frank posted this infographic to help highlight the issues:
Ffs. There’s literally no party for me to vote for. What’s the point?
As someone with mistrust of politicians, I decided to join Greens a few months ago, he stuck out as someone to be avoided. Seems I was right, I've let my membership lapse until he is ousted for deception. Religious excuses for transphobic bigotry should have no place in politics or the modern world.
Congratulations @mothinali.bsky.social 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
Not at all good. He felt free to back transphobes as soon as the vote closed. We literally have someone in a key position who is at the very least extremely sympathetic to transphobia, and I'm very disappointed in this
Hopefully between Zack as leader and Rachel Millward as the other deputy leader, there can be some mitigation. 🤞🏻
A single transphobe in the party is one too many. There should be _no_ 'trans debate'. The rights of trans people are basic human rights and are not up for discussion, or even question. Really disappointing from the Green Party membership. They will lose a _lot_ of support from this.
I'm a trans guy, you don't need to tell me how bad this is. I'm trying to remain hopeful that we can still turn things around, since the Greens are the best chance we've got.
After his acceptance speech he explicitly talked about standing with trans people in the face of attack, when he didn't need to say anything, I think your hopes are well founded
Unfortunately that’s the same “dignity and respect” like Labour politicians peddle too He refused to answer whether trans women are women in the campaign and implied he had a different view because of his faith
Exactly. We're under threat and we can't afford to give anyone the benefit of the doubt who can't take the simple step of plainly affirming our rights.
I've been in meetings with Mothin and heard him consistently and genuinely talking and engaging in solidarity. I've also protested against people-who-shout-at-hotels, who mix their racist chants with extreme homophobia, transphobia and misogyny. It's time to fight the latter. They are the threat
The people-who-shout-at-hotels are not deputy leaders of the Green Party of England and Wales
And the deputy leader of the Green party will support trans rights against them at every turn, and the rights of all the other people in their sights. I hope that in a year's time, as I expect, you will feel that your fears are unfounded. If not, he can be voted out
They are *more* of a threat, yes. I don't deny that. But "solidarity" is meaningless when it's issued through bland platitudes. When he can't even bring himself to say trans women are women, how exactly is he going to stand up properly for trans people?
Solidarity is actively doing things to support and protect each other. I have no trouble saying, as I believe, that trans women are women, but on its own that achieves nothing - just a platitude. Mothin is the deputy leader, so I hope you will see what an actual ally he is over the next 12 months
Top tip: best not tell people that their rights are less important than other issues, especially to their faces? Progressive politics isn't a zero sum game. You can't leave people behind because you're distracted by something else.
They are the same issues
I hope you're right :-)
Transphobes are in every party unfortunately, however there are some safeguards Zack is the leader, Rachel is the other deputy, and the members direct the policy.
Hand-wringing and saying 'they will always be with us' is no substitute for actually getting rid of them and reassuring a significant group of people at the same time. I don't vote for parties that tolerate transphobia.
What's the option then? as no party is safe.
The option is getting rid of them, which is what I just said. There is no excuse - trans rights are a fundamental progressive issue, and a party that ignores them isn't progressive. You're telling trans people their rights don't matter to you.
If you find me a Party that has a better chance of turning the dial I'm interested until then it's mute.
Just ask yourself who else you'd throw under the bus.
I literally don't want to throw Trans people under a bus, who do you suppose I vote for?
Literally not, who are you getting rid off tho? one MP can be dealt with, many other parties are harder. Again as a member of the Green party you can vote on policy you don't get that with other party's
I think this is an issue of communication and religion. Mothin seems to sincerely have a belief in a need for solidarity between marginalised groups, but is uncomfortable with the phrasing of queer liberation. To me, as long as he focuses on solidarity, I think he’ll be a good deputy leader.
what did he say? I seem to remember him saying some promising things about LGBT+ rights during his campaign
No, I in fact took the opposite from him. He didn't attend the key hustings, refused to make clear his support of Green party policy on trans rights, inferred he had a different view because of religion. He will not be able to defend our policy on trans rights unfortunately
damn, that's shitty. this was what I was thinking of: bsky.app/profile/moth... Hopefully he's open to changing his mind and getting better on this
I saw that and put him at the bottom of my list. It was a dogshit answer
Maybe even worse than that, he's a sneaky deceptive liar.
Not keen on this one. Transphobe.
Oh no😢
Outnumbered by the others, though.
👍
Ah, the briefcase insurance policy
Sad to see you’re transphobic.
@zackpolanski.bsky.social how did this happen? Apparently this guy's a terf. Have we learned nothing from the last utter catastrophe? I know it's not your fault but....😕
😊🏴🇵🇸💚✌
Transphobic con artist.
Don't care for the transphobia. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
The orchestrated pile-on as expected. Most will not be Greens.
Have to say I’m disappointed with this. He waited for the voting to close before coming out in support of transphobes
Great another transphobe.
This is fucking disappointing we can’t have good news for a single god damn second can we
@mothinali.bsky.social You have a lot of work to do to gain the trust of LGBT members. I do not yet believe that you take our concerns seriously, or that you will defend the human rights of trans people as they are being violated by the state. I hope to be proven wrong.
Nope, not joining until he's OUT.
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Well done @mothinali.bsky.social you'll be brilliant!
Yes another party elected a transphobe. You all love this.
What? He was talking about standing with trans people earlier at the count. I think your judgement may be premature. But I guess we'll see over the next 12 months. If what you say comes to pass he won't get my vote again, it's as straightforward as that.
Congratulations Mothin, now please let trans and gender diverse members know that they are safe with this leadership.
