I need to figure out how one of our Schnauzers is doing this 2-3 minutes before either of us arrives home, he starts a unending squealing.

They recognise sounds of cars, footsteps etc. they’re watchdogs after all!

It's like the quails, driving down the residential roads in the neighborhood (25MPH limit) and they wait for me to get near them and then ma and pa and their brood decides to run right in front of me, scaring the crap out of me. And yet, never hit one of them. There's something else going on here.

We live about a 1000ft from a 6 lane heavily traveled thoroughfare. For them to discern our cars out of that noise would classify as a miracle. There has to be something else going on here.
