There was a period in the early 00s when every fantasy book had to have an assassin. Preferably a hooded looking grim on the cover.

You tour the country, never really staying more than one night at any location. If you were a hitman, it'd make a fantastic show. You could tell a joke or make a topical observation with every murder.
