My generation (Millennials) killed literally everything, but apparently we expect Gen Alpha to save everything. No pressure, Gen Alpha. The Olds have given up. variety.com/2025/film/ne...

All the things we killed was just because we have no money compared to the previous generation. I'd love to know why Gen Alpha is gonna be better off...

Right? At the moment, Gen Alpha has a lot of exhausted Millennial parents trying to keep them happy in a hellscape with as much entertainment budget as we can manage, but without dramatic economic change, it's not going anywhere.

It’s funny b/c COVID killed movie theatres, and almost everything released in theatres since has been rubbish.

IMO horror has been really good since Covid but nothing else has kept up with it.

I’ve never been a horror fan so you may be correct!

It was a meme for a while. There were just so many articles written about us that said "Millennials are killing xyz" mashable.com/article/thin...

This tracks with my 8yo. I find it hilariously out of touch that the writer is suggesting the possibility of "a Roblox movie". That's a bit like saying "a movie based on the Xbox" - a thing that could happen, but probably not based on characters in the games. It's a whole platform, y'all.

That was the point I got stuck on. I was trying to figure out WHICH Roblox game gets a movie adaptation, because you can't really...do the whole platform? Unless it's like Wreck-it Ralph, jumping between games.

Or, (to really blast from the past) The Wizard, where you focus on someone who plays the games. We're ripe for a zero-to-hero movie about a livestreamer climbing out of obscurity. Not something I'd seek out, but YouTuber is the new astronaut/movie star/athlete.

I could see that. But I think a studio doing a Roblox movie would probably try to follow the Minecraft format would isekai a kid into some of the popular games.

You're probably right. CG FX have come a long way since 1989, and a setting that reads as "Roblox" is going to be more likely to attract the youngs.
