SUCH a ridiculously good series
I read The September House (Carissa Orlando), & I am not okay. I adore haunted house stories, good writing, & voice that says to me "I could totally be friends with this person" (the character not the live human who wrote it!). But also it is such a brilliantly delicious, disturbed, lovely book!!!
i'm gonna be writing more science fiction in the near future. i am very greedy about wanting to be inside every genre.
i think my personal favorite short story i have put into circulation on submission right now is "the fork." it's slipstream science fiction. extremely weird. amazing stuff. i like the other three stories too, but "the fork" was such a gift to write.
tbh it's unlikely The Liar's Throne ends at 85k, but if I *aim* for 85k, I will finish it around 95k and then edit it down to 85k and everything will be all right.
my next fantasy book won't have a siege either. it's going to be a horny magic school kissing book with a backdrop of the enormous milieu i built for "Atop the Trees, Beneath the Mountains" and "The Liar's Throne." i'm too distant from writing any horny kissing books and must remedy this.
i absolutely need to write an authentic siege at some point, but it can't be this book. nothing i've set up really establishes political forces with the military/logistical network that a siege demands. a smaller scale battle between factions will do just fine.
i'm now 73,000 words into writing The Liar's Throne and trying to figure out how to end it by 85,000 words. i'm cutting a siege plot - that would easily be another 50k words, and i don't think i need it. it'll be better without it. i WILL end this GD book and publish it THIS YEAR
