and so long as your in-group has amount of variety, this phenomenon WILL take place. You cannot gatekeep your way out of it, because you need the numbers. Any organization does.

So more than half your time is gonna be spent re-educating people you know they know should know better. Accept it. Work with it. Stop crying about it. And get to work clarifying what you wanna do to people outside AND inside of your groups.
