I often find that so long as I have something for my hands to be doing like doodling or knitting, I can focus better on what people are saying.

I can focus on sketching with or without music, but often default to having music or a show or some extra auditory stimuli as I working on something. Like boomers letting the radio play on while they started their day on the farm.
