They were perfect cheap sweet treat deserts for kids in winter, pre-central heating :)
I’m rubbish at making mince pies. I can never judge the correct amount of mincemeat. They’re either empty or overflowing and burnt.
Haha, my mum used to make trays of small ones for Christmas and yes, I remember the disappointment of biting into a mostly-pastry mince pie :)
You never see the little pies here. It's always a standard pie size to slice up. Or little bars, I imagine similar to what Del's mother made.
The little ones were mostly like these - cup of tea recommended to wash down the pastry :)
Oh! I misunderstood. This is what I was thinking of. Trays cut up into bars. Pretty common here, especially with fruit-type fillings.
Ah, I see. No She had loads of shallow bun trays like this and she used to bake loads of mince pies at a time and store them in biscuit tins or tubs until needed.
those are cute lil trays!
Me and my sister used to have to butter them, with our fingers :)
My mother would have us butter pans too. She said it was because little kid fingers got in the corners better. But it was really because she would rather we get all greasy.
Or a glass of sherry. 😉
Absolutely 😁
That's such a pity. Think parties where finger food helps. 🙂
We are a culture of excess, Michael. 😂
