With the system we have and the imperfect parties and candidates we have, you will end up with an imperfect government regardless. Failing to vote just means you are not using the chance to sway any of that in your preferred direction. If you prefer to wash your hands of it that's your choice.
Or stand up and be the candidate you want, if you're game for that (I wouldn't be).
Voting for the lesser evil is how we end up with fascism. Every time a "lesser evil" is voted in, the needle moves further to the right. One just has to look at the US for what happens eventually with lesser evil voting.
Well I am not going to throw away my vote just because I don't love everything about any of the candidates I'm able to vote for. Just being the best of a bad lot isn't the same as being fascists.
No, but it is the road that leads to fascism. Every time a party is voted in because they aren't quite as evil as the other party - the needle moves right. Awfulness becomes normalised.
I think you are misreading what I said. I am not suggesting voting for evil parties. I'm suggesting that not every candidate in an election is evil and even if I disagree with them on some things they might be the best choice I've got so they get my vote.
I didn't misunderstand at all. The topic was 'voting for the lesser evil'. My point still stands.
I never suggested voting for evil of any sort, just "least worst". Not all our candidates are evil so there are still options without just letting everyone else decide without voting oneself.
