This has been a very fulfilling project this summer!

Image of tomatoes, onions, and cucumber all freshly picked from my Victory Garden. More onions, tomatoes, and cucumber from my victory garden (before I trimmed the onions for storage). I call it my Victory Garden (1) because I'm a huge history nerd and like to think I'm carrying on a small part of an important historical tradition, but also (2) I feel like I'm really fighting a frightening rise of the Far Right in the modern world. So far at least, it's not really about feeding a literal fighting body (I'm working on getting back into fighting shape, though), but rather about feeding a fighting spirit. Coming out every morning for the last few months to see just a little more growth, to have to focus my efforts on one positive thing and seeing results and harvesting something good has given me strength. I've seen so many seeming steps backwards, but like a slug in the cucumber patch, we just have to adapt and press on, knowing that we WILL have a better, healthier world for it. The garden is not done yet, but with the seasons' change, I hope it will also give a lesson in resilience; I'll have to preserve, store, and sustain the bounty, but hopefully it will see us through to the new spring. I'm pulling for you, we're all in this together.
