It’s a testament to the subjective subjectiveness of game design that a game with THIS many problems and THIS level of incompleteness is also actually one of the best stealth games of all time.

True but ITS problems is the reason why it is no Snake Eater though 😅
The apex of "Horny Kojima".
Because gameplay is king.
I replayed it recently and it truly is the most fucked up game that I love to fucking death.
Yeah, it had a lot of problems and felt very unfinished in the end, but what was there was absolutely incredible. It's simply an extremely fun game to play.
It's one of the best playing games I've ever experienced, but I also had no drive to finish it. Somehow, both incredible and supremely disappointing, and this is coming from a huge MGS fan.
Two recent and highly lauded games that have very similar control schemes to MGSV: The Last of Us II and Helldivers. And honestly MGSV still feels better to me.
My main issue with it is that I have basically no desire to play through it again. Core gameplay I recognize has a lot of potential, but the game is mostly based around you doing random faff. And there are so many options to complete any mission it doesn't feel like an accomplishment for me.
Games like MGS1-3...or even 4 to a lesser extent, I could get urge to replay at any time and clear them in an afternoon or weekend. I've never felt that urge with 5.
I think it might the best video trailer hype campaign of all time too, I enjoyed the lead up more than the game tbh and I don’t even mean that in a way to disparage it
The moment to moment gameplay is just far and away the best of the stealth genre. Like, I don’t want Konami to continue the story of Metal Gear without Kojima, but just give me another game that plays like this.
