The current organization of the DHS makes logical sense. There is no reason to disband it. I offered those two agencies as examples of reasonable responsibilities of the DHS. Disbanding it as soon as Democrats are in power because the Trump administration misused ICE would be stupid and pointless.

The DHS was created by the Homeland Security Act, not the Patriot Act. This is blatant misinformation. I 100% agree that the Patriot Act is an absolute failure of our country, it is up there among the pieces of legislation which I despise the most.

The patriot act has nothing to do with this lmao. The Coast Guard became part of the Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003. This transfer was a result of the Homeland Security Act of 2002. Prior to this, the Coast Guard had been part of the Department of Transportation since 1967.

The U.S. Secret Service was transferred to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on March 1, 2003 at the same time as the coast guard. Prior to this, it was with the Department of the Treasury.

Yes the public may see them as a threat but I'm not convinced Dem leaders will go so far as to defund ICE, if they're ever in the position to do so. We'll have to push them to at the very least reform it: a detainee bill of rights, due process, no masks, humanitarian detention conditions, etc.
