I got worried it had deleted an album I scanned in as a CD two laptops ago, and another I bought on iTunes on my last laptop, but nope, still in my library, just not showing up in the streaming part. It doesn’t integrate music you own on the same Apple Music platform ffs? I’ll make it work because I

want more of my money going to artists and less to Joe Rogan, but I think everyone who used iTunes can understand the concept of enshitification, because it was a reliable service that just worked and you happily gave money, and then they made it suck.

I only use the free version and it is absurdly unusable. I don't understand why they made it this bad. I was loading an album onto my phone and it decided "no you don't actually want that music" and only copied half the tracks ... without sending an error. I checked and turns out it "decides" ...

I’d have to poke around in that to find albums I knew I’d scanned in as CDs or bought through iTunes, and start freaking out when I couldn’t find ones that I couldn’t easily replace if they were gone. I’ve found them, but without a CD drive, can’t burn backups!

I've sometimes wondered if the design team decided that "nobody listens to albums anymore". So often I'll be looking for an album and find it's under "various artists" or "compilations". Especially hip-hop: they'll divide one album into eight or nine.

The soundtrack for the Baz Luhrmann Great Gatsby I bought from iTunes was in there three times, with three different assortments of tracks. iTunes was the platinum standard of apps before apps even existed, and they turned it into this. But hey, I can watch videos in this!

ugh yeah it seems to do especially poorly with soundtracks. I have several soundtracks where it lists each track as its own album no matter what I do.

... what will fit best on your devices for you. But it doesn't ask, it doesn't send an error, you just discover that half your music isn't on your devices when you try to play the album.
