Ok, this claim from a British conservative politician will make every American who’s applied for college laugh. She claims that Stanford offered her a place in a pre med program with a partial scholarship without her having to apply, when she was 16, based only on her test scores (I assume SAT).
Who's going to believe that?! Show us the offer letter, lady; anybody who actually got an offer like that would have the letter framed and kept in a prominent place amongst the family photos.
I was a National Merit Scholar and had pretty good SAT scores and got so so many brochures from colleges I’d never heard of. They were asking me to apply, not telling me I’d gotten in. This official is absolutely terrible and should be run out on merits, but I’d take a scandal about this lie, too.
Exactly. I was applying for college in 1996-97 and kept all the brochures I'd been sent, organized alphabetically. I took a picture before I recycled the lot - the row of mail was almost as long as my legs. Not a single one contained an offer; they wanted a bunch of essays and $30-$75 to apply.
But the article quotes her spokesperson saying she's got degrees in engineering and law, so what a weird thing to tell people - who cares what school she didn't go to, if she has degrees from schools she did attend?
Her A levels weren’t great, she might have inflated the Stanford claim to bolster her own self worth as a smart woman, and also she seems to be trying to blame the British school she transferred to from Nigeria at 16 for her bad A levels. The British system failed her, kept her from Stanford!
