Biting the hand that fed him. I hope he continues to do that between now and next May. What more can they do to him? They already fired him! LOL

He'll come up with something.............
I would LOVE to see Colbert and Tomlinson join forces through the summer of 2026: Stephen could 'open' for Taylor in her live performances all summer long, and then he'd join her and her friends on the couch/bench thing... OR they could use next summer as an opportunity to do.. The Thinkable!
#WestWing 2028 Stephen Colbert as POTUS Taylor Tomlinson as Chief of Staff Patton Oswalt as Press Secretary Janeane Garofalo as First Lady & VP. Alan Tudyk as... "and the rest"
Nathan Fillion as "the Secret Service." He's all of them. Did I mention this reboot might be a comedy? Just a little bit. Maybe "dramedy" would be a better word. Also, the entire cast will be wearing running sneakers cuz in #WestWing 2028 there will be even more walking. We need to make this happen.
In light of Colbert's cancellation, the stated reason for Taylor's cancellation must be reexamined. ☹️
I concur, but that's up to Taylor. From what I can tell, she's doing so much better going back to what she loves. Stand up is what she's been doing since her teens. If she's making more money & getting more fulfillment.. in interviews she described After Midnight like a soul crushing job. *shrug*
Taylor would show up to After Midnight studio and a team of pros dressed her up like a doll, then escorted her to a mark on the floor or the podium where she read from a teleprompter jokes written by a team of talented pros. Easy job, but after two years of that.. *shrug* Maybe she missed stand-up.
Oh I'm sure that Taylor will be happier returning to solely doing standup (she continued doing shows as she hosted). But Paramount didn't seek a new host (lots of talent who could do it), and cancelled the show outright, and will likely air infomercials instead.
I loved the original At Midnight, and loved this incarnation too, and it continued to get better as they honed it. Showcasing comedians, especially lesser known comedians, and showcasing the comedic talents of other actors, even if not ever joke lands, was a lot of fun to watch.
But I suspect that Paramount rather submit than having comedians snipe at the Dear Leader in this age were all dissent is being crushed. 😠
