CEO of Peak Design called the CEO shooter tip line to help identify the perpetrator by the backpack serial number. Lots of bag makers out there should you not want to give your hard earned money to rats.

I saw someone saying this on Reddit--but the only news report I've seen quotes him as saying that a bunch of texts alerted him to the photo so he called the tip line, that they told him they'd already had "hundreds" of calls to that effect, and they didn't call back. Nothing about a serial.
Here's the article I've seen. Nothing in here suggests that Peak Design even substantively spoke to police, let alone had the serial number or looked it up. Where is this coming from? www.nytimes.com/2024/12/05/n...
I guess he says he didn't. He still looked pretty eager to snitch though. bsky.app/profile/cait...
Yeah the more I see this the less I believe it happened. The authorities WANT the information around this case to be obfuscated violently. I'm sure lots of news editors right now are being paid extra to make a lot of noise about as many unfounded rumours as possible. Break up the class consciousness
you’re the first sentient being i’ve found on this site
Turning people's anger towards random McDonalds employees and backpack manufacturers takes some of the heat away from the actual problem. Let's stay focused.
he still called the snitch hotline to tell them he would snitch. he did still do that
Dan Noyes is the reporter it comes from. I originally saw a clip of him talking on air about it saying that the CEO reached out to authorities when he recognized the bag. Maybe it’s a misunderstanding but this is where the idea originates. abc7news.com/amp/post/lui...
I don’t get why a backpack needs a serial number in the first place.
why does a phone need a serial warranty, repair, quality assurance if you're asking what kind of backpack needs all that idk, bougie shit aint me
If it doesn’t require electricity it probably doesn’t need a serial number.
Also just... Can you imagine intentionally signing yourself up with a product that will narc on you at the first opportunity?
Ha ha ha now they're backtracking so hard, trying to claim they never tried to narc on their customers, despite boasting about it a moment ago. The only thing worse than a narc is a inconsistent narc. bsky.app/profile/thev...
Is there anywhere other than the NYT claiming Peak Design snitched?
well the nyt quotes him directly
me every time i accept TOS on any and every website without reading bc i am not a resident of the EU or California
I wonder what health insurance the Peak Design employees have. Or don't have.
Pakt makes a better product, anyway.
This is not correct. He said his instinct was to help any way he could, but according to their press release, they never provided customer information and would not without a subpoena. The serial number is also only traceable if the bag is registered by the user for warranty.
