There is a difference between "offering up rights" and prioritizing other issues. There are multiple groups under attack. Prioritizing issues that affect larger numbers of people doesn't detract from the validity of the others. It's the same reason that heart disease receives more funding than ALS.
you're talking as if we're upset newsom isnt planning to offer up new protections or give trans people stimulus checks ect. this man was shaking hands with charlie over the idea that existing rights need to be taken away. that's not "prioritizing" other issues. that's being proactive in harm.
It would have cost Newsom zero dollars and zero credibility to keep his mouth shut.. He did this, and I cannot stress this enough, unprompted; While other Democrats are openly defending trans people. He did this because he wanted to. There is no other conclusion.
This was not a govt. Dinner with a whole host of folks in attendance. This was not some high society gala function. This was not a run by surprise Street interview, These were personal decisions to go to AA studio and say these things for public broadcast.
If he said what he said and he meant it, then he is complicit with fascist ideology and against the other large presences in his party. If he simply cracked under the pressure of a podcast, he is unfit to govern international politics. Transphobe or Incompetent. Which is he?

i don't know if he's just one of those guys whos still listening to consultants as they try to scapegoat trans people instead of owning up to all the ACTUAL reasons the campaign failed. given his treatment of homeless people & protection of ice, i suspect he just might be a bigot. call it a hunch.
The truth is that the California political machine has not been meaningfully progressive since the 70s. It's thrown queers out there as a distraction, but colorado beat them to legal weed for example. Vermont to gay marriage, newsom fights against CA m4a, Bass gives millions more for police.
