Our governors will have to save us because Schumer and Jeffries are doing jack shit.
Our governors will have to save us because Schumer and Jeffries are doing jack shit.
I agree. Such disappointments.
States have a level of sovereignty that can be used to push back against the federal authoritarian regime. Congress can’t do this. The job of minority leaders in Congress is to whip votes and unite their caucus. Completely different roles.
So far Pritzker, Mills (ME), Moore (MD), Waltz and Newson (took him a while but he’s in the fight now) have been leading the charge while the Dem congressional leadership remains impotent and silent. If they won’t stand up and fight then they need to stand down.
There’s a gulf of difference between congressional minority leadership and state governors. It’s asinine that you’re even comparing them.
chuck the schmuck has sent of another very strongly worded letter............ if only trump could read
Schumer has to ask the Baileys if it's okay first.
Deep cut, I like it.
Nah. We are going to have to save ourselves.
Start by primarying every single ineffective, complicit, oligarch-friendly dem in power.
How about we keep the seats we have and flip more so we can actually get some shit done?
Down with that but there needs to be some serious house cleaning.
Let’s get rid of Republicans first and clean the house they took a massive shit in. Then we can handle the Dems who annoy us.
Literally doing nothing and cedeing power to authoritarians time after time isn't just annoying. Maintaining this system which benefits the very few isn't just annoying. Offering no alternative but status quo isn't just annoying.
They don’t have the votes to do anything or to offer alternatives, ding-dong. Good lord, the number of people on the left who don’t understand basic civics is BEYOND annoying. 47 is less than 53. 212 is less than 220. Want bigger numbers? You should’ve voted.
I did i live in a state dems dont even try in
Don’t even try what? Who are your reps? Mine’s shithead Mike Lawler.
I get the feeling you're the type too cheer on the DNC subverting democratic will.
I’ve yet to see them do anything of the kind but far be it from me to interfere with your fantasies.
They shafted Bernie, refuse to endorse Mamdani, and are actively disendorsing Omar Fateh. All of whom are quite popular. Cuomo is LITERALLY colluding with Republicans.
Oh God, so much to unpack here.... Bernie’s an ass. He shafted himself by being totally useless in his government career and failing to gain support from black people who, reminder, are the base of the Dem party. He named a few post offices and he holds fun rallies. That’s it. 1/
2) Mamdani is fabulous for NYC but outside the tri-state area, nobody knows who he is or gives a fuck. No mayoral race hinges on congressional endorsement. He’s polling well on his own. Why would the endorsement of Jeffries and Schumer—whom you actively can’t stand—even be a net positive?
2a) Mamdani didn’t endorse Harris so spare me the hurt feelings. 3) 5-6 rich dudes who think they influence Dem politics are sucking Cuomo’s cock. Otherwise the support is for Mamdani. The DNC endorsed him. You’re just never satisfied unless you’re playing the victim. Constant outrage is your drug.
For the first time in a long time I dont think they can rig it and Mamdani will win . I'm here for the aftermath of a possible landslide
4) I hope Mamdani wins because when he starts compromising to get things done and you realize he’s really just a normie Dem, you’ll throw him under the bus.
You're insanely out of touch if you think no one outside the tri-state area is aware of Mamdani lmfao
Vaguely aware, they’ve heard of him, yes. Invested in his campaign like NYC is a bellwether for the rest of the country? No.
I just hope Susan Sarandon is happy
To*
It will definitely be ourselves doing the saving. Nobody can represent one million people
I certainly hope that when we get this mess cleaned up that we take a good hard look at who didn't help and make sure that they are never allowed to be in the position of leadership again.
Jeffries was pathetic on State of the Union this week. Schumer is always pathetic.
Oh, now that’s not true. They are in fact, writing the occasional strongly worded letter. 😂
Strongly worded letter has become such a baseless and exhausted cliché, it has no edge anymore. Besides, everything in government happens by letter. Pritzker’s speech is a strongly worded letter read out loud. Your own post was an SWL. You actually like them.
I'm not a fan of either of them. But understand that THEY CAN'T DO JACK SHIT. They are legislators in the minority. In a democracy, that means they don't have power. We need to stop the American people from being babies and pretending politicians can do stuff when we've taken power from them.
This is such a cop out. Make a scene, fight tooth and nail in the house and senate. Make every single goddamn thing a fight, instead of voting to confirm Trumps appointments.
It’s not a cop out. Making a scene doesn’t accomplish anything. Fighting tooth and nail is a cliché, not an action item. Trump’s nominees are getting confirmed no matter what because 47 is less than 53. We gave Dems just 47 votes. We are responsible for this. Don’t cop out of the accountability.
It’s absolutely a cop out. The Republicans were able to slow and stop a ton of Obama and Biden’s projects BECAUSE they fought them tooth and nail. Doing so shows your base and independent voters that you don’t think all this shit is acceptable. Voting for Trumps people is the opposite of that.
LOL, you think that was why? No, it’s BECAUSE when McConnell was minority leader, 60 votes were needed in the Senate for most business. Rules have changed since and now Senate Republicans only need 50 votes. They have 53. BECAUSE (say it again with me) we failed to show up in November.
Trump’s nominees are getting confirmed no matter what. Republicans don’t need a single Dem vote. If a Dem in a red state has to throw a vote to their constituents, it makes zero difference. We failed to show up in November and empower Dems in either chamber with the votes to take action.
No amount of scene-making, or fighting with teeth and nails, is going to make 47 bigger than 53, or 212 bigger than 220. Those numbers are on us. We did this.
There is no magic procedural ace-in-the-hole Dems are holding in reserve until the right moment. There is no secret button called “STALL THIS” that Dems just haven’t thought to press yet. Rhetoric and lawsuits, that’s what we got until 2026.
Let’s give our party a supermajority for once and see what kind of amazing shit we can do. Just spitballing here...
And the Dems messaging cost them turnout in the last election. Which is why you make a scene whenever possible NOW to change that issue.
Idiot Dem voters not showing up to do the bare minimum cost us the election. An insane scene was made about the consequences if Trump took office again and it did no good to smarten people up. Knock yourself out blaming the candidates but I’m telling you, it’s on the voters at the end of the day.
“iT wAs tHe mEssAgiNg...” Fuck you. The message was right there and people didn’t care. bsky.app/profile/chic...
Wow. A screenshot from some obscure blog with three unknowns opining “Dems’ messaging nerds” said something uncorroborated. LOL. Dare I say, LMFAO.
Our governors are campaigning. If anyone’s going to save us, it’ll be us.
I feel like anytime from several years ago to maybe a couple months from now will be the only window we have. Anytime after that we will all be too worried about economic collapse and starving to death to put up much of a fight.
Neither are republican congressmen.
Obviously. And it’s fair to point out that they swore an oath, one that they break on a daily basis, to offer fealty to one man.
Yes obviously. And I hope you yourself are protesting and calling or writing your representatives daily.
And that man is a convicted felon.
If you think two congressional minority Dems are going to “catch up” to two state governors, you need to go back to seventh grade social studies class.
Your reply is aggressive and rude. I understand politics extremely well. I understand the powers each position holds. I also understand that Schumer and Jeffries are somewhat constrained in legislating - but not in using their positions to decry the authoritarian takeover.
Using their positions to “decry” the authoritarian takeover. What a load of crap. Find that aggressive or rude? Good. Wake up. Your entertainment isn’t the issue here.
Ummmmm, we need to talk about New York rules. Besides offering the WHIP class, I should offer the Why New York works the way it does class. It's ok - I didn't really know until I moved there even though I had campaigned there a bunch of times.
I seriously can't handle this. I feel like I'm the only person in this fucking country who paid attention in civics 101.
Not only that, but do these fuckwits not realize that fan politics and cults of personality got us into this mess in the first place?
May be a long wait.
That's not true! Schumer voted to fund this.
And he saved our asses because otherwise the government would still be shut down and the courts would be shut down.
Even if you're right (and it assumes that the Democrats were too weak to make Trump cave), he let the entire House advocate for a shutdown, and then made them all look like morons a few days later. So, best case senerio, he was correct but so incompetent he couldn't even come up with a strategy.
This isn’t even close to reality but you have a pathological need to blame Dems for Republican failings in general, and blame Chuck Schumer in particular. It’s boring AF and displays an utter ignorance of politics and civics.
Yeah? Is that right? Because Hakeem Jefferies sure didn't think so.
LOL, this is what you’re going to court with? Adorable.
"Going to court." Adorable. Anyway, I'm done here. You can't respond to a single thing I've said, but still want to try to talk down to me about things you don't understand. This is a waste of my time. Go be wrong at someone else.
I responded to you with facts. You didn’t like it. Go back to your mommy and whine that you can’t mindlessly bash Schumer.
You've shared exactly one fact about court funding. Then you ignored my point that it was still a bad strategy, as well as fact that Jefferies came after Schumer for caving on the budget. This is a waste of my time. Go be wrong at someone else.
It wasn’t caving, it wasn’t a bad strategy and Jeffries did not “come after” Schumer. 0/3. You’ve announced your departure twice now. Are you going to actually leave, or just flounce in and out being loudly and confidently wrong?
Congress hasn't been working for so long, most will get lost trying to find ttheir way back to DC in September. Schumer is probably off at some resort playing bocce ball waiting for Trump to cross his red line.
It’s really astounding Republicans have just so fully given up their belief systems, obviously Democrats in the minority will be against this but this is exactly the kind of thing that I think those who were vocally against Trump then capitulated concerned over.
They believed that to win they needed to join him but to the extent any of them actually concern over the country I’d imagine this is a point where maybe allegiance to the party stops to matter when the party is so disconnected from what they might’ve imagined it to be when entering politics.
But that’s a dumb statement on my end because realistically if any of them were to take a “not my party” stance they would’ve impeached Trump when he got them very close to being victims of violence on January 6th.
When you lose the presidency the House and the Senate you have no power to control the outcome in Congress. You can complain about the Democrats not doing anything but that’s what happens when you don’t win.
Gentle reminder that it was Mike Johnson who sent the house home.
Unless Democrats control at least one house, Congress being closed is fine by me because nothing good can or will come out of a Republican-controlled legislature.
Absolutely nailed it. TY
Absolutely did not 🦜
Right now, the Dems in Congress can make noise, but not much more. I'm a big Jasmine Crockett fan, but right now she is (of necessity) all talk.
She’s speaking up, some are silent….it’s up to all of us to listen and be aware….and act.
“The government you elect is the government you deserve.” Thomas Jefferson
Yeah we didn't elect this one though. They fucking admitted it publicly.
Well, Jefferson, only if you believe in something like collective guilt. I hated it in school when the whole class would be punished when a few idiots acted up. Who is "you"? Women couldn't vote when Idiot Jefferson said that. Then there's electoral college the founding idiots created. Rant over
You believe what you were taught in school? 🤨
except it's that the government that was elected is the government they deserved and the government you have to live with. it sucks when your peers are dumb and you, the planet and the rest of the world pay the consequences.
Exactly!,
Fucking exactly
Every State does have their own set of rules and laws and a State Constitution and Jared Polis spilled oil on Ute land for Christmas last year to bring the Titanic to life for me to recall the 1989 Exxon Valdez. I would ask Lisa how she's fairing in Alaska after being the biggest Benedict Arnold!
Talk matters—more than votes. What elected representatives say sends signals to the public in so many ways. What they *don't* say does too.
Agreed! I absolutely recognize their legal/legislative limitations right now, but if they all stood up and got loud and direct in their criticisms (vs. mealy mouthed, consultant-approved, empty calorie talking points), even the corrupt corporate media would be hard pressed to ignore all of them!
Real change doesn’t come from checking out when it gets hard, it comes from pushing back and fighting for what you believe in, even when the other side is in control. This is why we are in the situation we’re in, Americans are so wimpy!
This has nothing to do with that, it's merely the mechanics of the legislature. What our reps have been doing while in-session is great, but the bottom line is that bad law is being passed by the enemy and all those great things Democrats are doing is still less helpful than bad law not passing.
This has EVERYTHING to do with that no matter how you try to spin it! If you’re scared just say that 🤷🏽♀️
It's very much not. The primary goal of Democrats in this specific Congress is to block harmful Republican legislation; Congress shut down early because of their successful efforts surrounding confirmations in the Senate and Epstein in the House, and every day it stays closed enlarges that victory.
Still haven’t addressed my response to you just spewing a bunch of nonsense from Google🤦🏽♀️ reread for context and respond then I’ll entertain you!
They could have refused to pass the CR and shut the government down. Schumer was too scared and this is what we got. Some of us saw it coming.
Agree 👊
Yup.
Congress has been broken since Jan 6, where 144 House members alone aided an insurrection. McConAll and his Senate did the rest to make sure it succeeded.
True that!! Where are their endorsements for Mamdani? They are flouting the will of the majority of NYers.
Mamdani is doing great in the polls on his own. What would be the net positive of endorsement from two congressional Dems that you can’t stand anyway?
“Can’t stand”??
Rhetorical you?
You lost me.
Just as well. Did you do the Zcavenger hunt this weekend? It looked like a blast. I love this guy’s energy.
And that is somewhat by design in the Constitution. Governors & states can fight back against a tyrannical federal government. That’s why we have the 2A & 10A.
No, our governors will not save us. We are the only ones who can save ourselves. What’s it going to take for us to get out in the streets. By the millions! We need to yank trump and his puppets out of service. I’ve said that blood will be spilled. There’s no other way. Unless trump drops dead.
He’ll be dead within the year.
Let’s hope. He doesn’t look good.
At all. There’s no miraculous bounce back coming. He’s stressed, eats like shit, and travels too much. If he was a normal senior citizen he’d probably eke out another 5 years, but that’s not the case.
The governors are actually our primary line of defense. The state AG’s too.. Dems congress can’t do much except speak out.
And Schumer and Jeffries are failing in that simple task. I know they have no power they can exercise, but Schumer is still talking about red lines. The urgency our governors are speaking with is what they should be doing.
You don't understand, the radical left is asking too much of @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social. Sit and be happy he doesn't have an R next to his name! Wow, who knew the man taking Elon money would be effectively pro-trump? Completely unforeseen. Primary his complicit do-nothing ass.
Primary everyone you don’t like is not a sound strategy right now. 🙄
Yes it is establishment dems are insanely unpopular
This is laughably inaccurate.
I'll give you sources since you seem to be operating off of vibes www.politico.com/news/2025/07... www.realclearpolling.com/polls/favora... www.cnbc.com/2025/08/07/t...
We’re winning special elections so you can keep your sources and your vibes and your cherished personal narrative.
Eat it. bsky.app/profile/char...
Not liberals using fascism to force people to vote for them again 🤡 Still doesn't change the data.
Not progressives being completely fine with fascism if they can’t get everything their own way.
"A few people don't like America subsidizing genocide and I'm going to pin the entirety of the election that was between a wildly unpopular candidate who lost her primary by wide margins and a cult leader on the realistically insignificant protest vote"
I’m so happy you found a way to bitch about the Dems while Dems are stepping up. Can you imagine if you could just give credit without complaining?! Neither can I.
Sanders, Crockett, AOC, hell even Pritzker and Newsom are at least all doing something. Schumer and Jeffries are shitty dems, and shouldn’t be in leadership. We’re not MAGA, Dems aren’t our “team” and even if so, the coaches and owners can be criticized.
We need a political big tent with people who provide solutions and don’t roll over. Honesty about ineffective dems is important to win back trust. Also, we need mass protests, city level and state-level general strikes, work slowdowns, boycotts, etc.
This post is about a great Dem giving a great speech, and you don’t understand why bitching about other Dems might not be the right time? Jfc
You are deliberately missing my point.
You’re behaving exactly like MAGA. I want a party that responds to the needs of the public and the people who live in this country. That means being critical and sometimes comparing which tactics and approaches work and which ones dont. I’m sorry we don’t like your boyfriends Chuck and Hakeem.
You’re not engaging with mine
What fucking credit are we supposed to be giving Jeffries and Schumer? They’ve done nothing, and looked terribly whilst doing so
Why the fuck would you bring them up at all? Why can’t you just give credit and save your hate for another post. That’s why people think Dems never do anything right bc there are always a bunch of clowns who NEED to hate them.
People think those two are feckless incompetents because they in fact, never fucking do anything. I would love to support them, but they’ve given me no reason to do so at ALL. They’re still trying to play by the rules of a game the Rs burned to the ground a decade ago. There’s no credit to give.
Because they're in the minority. This is what happens when you lose an election. Why is this not clicking.
What did Pritzker do here legislatively? Politics has a performative component and our leaders in Congress are abdicating that role. In a world driven more and more by clicks and content, much as I despise it, that’s also part of their job now.
I can't keep up with the complaints. First Jefferies is "too performative" because all he does is "make speeches" but now he's not performative enough? What exactly do you expect the minority party to do?
You’re making arguments for me that I never made. I like when they’re out front and center, and that’s what I want them to do. I said as much. You can take up your argument with the imaginary me you’ve made up somewhere else.
Sadly, I agree.
You are correct. Both need to resign.
Still not entirely sure what can be done outside of the Filibuster but I do agree they have not been the fearless leaders we need right now, Folx like Pritzker and Mamdani have been those leaders, And I’m confident a Victory for the latter in November will cause more to emerge.
They have no legislative power, but there’s a ton of power in attention. I don’t expect them to move mountains, I just need them to address this with the urgency required. They’re both minority leaders and we should be flooded with interviews with them calling this what it is.
Exactly. They could have been using their voices to say the types of things Pritzker said today. They can use their voices to focus the news media on various issues. Standing around wringing their hands and sending us all emails asking for money doesn't cut it.
Yeah but they could stop sitting around and sending strongly worded letters. Get loud democrats. Instead of being a Schumer, be a Crockett.
They CAN'T do jack $hit cuz too many people like you voted them out of power.
Stfu, I voted Kamala and have some of the best Dem representatives. Look in the fucking mirror. It’s people like YOU that are the reason we’re here.
I love the random attacks that not only impose a purity test, but start out by assuming you failed. Being presumed guilty because you have a slightly different views reminds me of something… 🤔 🤔
lol back to bed, gramps. If you can’t look at the field of play objectively, take your pills and wait for the end.
Unfortunately my governor is also a NYS democrat
Is there a reason they’re all so risk adverse?
My guess, based on pure conjecture: the legacy of Tammany Hall is a political culture of cronyism and personal enrichment. Given the Dem party’s hegemonic grip on power, elections don’t really matter once you’re in office and it’s more comfortable to please your patrons than serve your constituents
