We don't ask about those things because we already know the answer: taxes. What we don't know is where Mamdani will get the money to pay for his projects. What/who will get taxed to pay for free buses, day care, govt. run stores, etc.? How will small landlords maintain their properties? Too many ???

So let's take this one at a time then. Rent freezes, as he mentions on his site and on his speeches, are specifically for rent stabilized apartments, which are NOT run by "small landlords". They're also subsidized by the city so this isn't a thing that costs the city money.

Who is subsidized by the city? In what way?

At this point you'll have to look things up yourself. Don't got time to teach you how subsidized rent stabilized housing works and that's all that his plan affects so.

I was asking if you were referring to tenant subsidies or landlord subsidies, as your statement wasn't clear. No need to get snarky. I know how tenant subsidies work - and not all rent stabilized tenants are subsidized.

Ah in that case yes. He's talking about subsidies for landlords. Rent stabilized apartments were also frozen during the pandemic for example. There's precedent.

Why do you think the rent freeze was ended after the pandemic? If rents are frozen but landlords' costs are not someone will have to make up the difference. Subsidies have to come from somewhere. Where would that be?

What is your definition of a "small" landlord?

But also given that rent subsidized housing is only owned by corporations that have multiple buildings that's a pretty good start.

You're the one who used the term you define it.

Fine. For me a small landlord is someone who spends most of the money generated by their properties to pay taxes & maintain their buildings, They may have 2 or 3 smaller apartment buildings or several private houses, but they aren't rich & they aren't major real estate corporations.

Oh so only someone with over a hundred million dollars got it.

See, that's how you lose your candidate a vote. I asked a legitimate question. You didn't like my response to you, so you got snotty. If that's how Mamdani's people operate he's in for a bumpy ride even if he wins.

Kindly do not attempt to sea lion. It is disingenuous to attempt to tone police while "just asking questions".

Obviously of different generations since I have no idea what you're talking about - nor do I care to attempt to translate your remarks. If you want to feel superior, be my guest. I have better ways to spend my time than arguing with you.

It's a direct answer. That's how buildings run in the boroughs. It's not snotty it's just what it would take to own multiple buildings in NYC.
